Window Tint Medical Exemptions – The Tint Law

The Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) issues medical exemptions for vehicle owners or habitual passengers. A written statement from a licensed physician in the state of Alabama is required. Vehicles bearing this decal can carry light-sensitive porphyria without fear that it will affect their driving abilities on public roads.

Travelers in Alaska can obtain a medical exemption for their vehicles if they are constantly exposed to the risks of getting sick. The process is simple and easy. As there’s only one requirement-you must renew annually with an ALASKA licensed physician!

Arizona’s medical exemption process permits drivers who own or frequently travel in exempt vehicles to apply for a special permit. These exemptions allow darker tints on side windows and change the color of your current film. So you can customize it according to personal preference!

A letter from your physician stating. That you need darker window tint medical exemptions must be sent to the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Medical Review Program.

If you have a medical condition that qualifies for an exemption from the window tinting regulations and is attested by your physician. Then this is perfect for you! The windshield can be 50%, side windows 20%, or rear 10%. Medical certificates are valid after 3 years of the issue date.

A licensed physician, surgeon, or dermatologist can issue a signed document stating that an individual needs to be shielded from the sun due to medical reasons. The only clear, colorless, and transparent film will do as it must not have any black marks on it. Otherwise they may interfere with visibility during treatment sessions at daytime when wearing corrective lenses are necessary.

It is important to follow the instructions for any such devices. They should not be used at the night. It’s best if you can take them off yourself!

The law of Colorado does not permit Window tint medical exemptions.

According to Connecticut law, vehicles may legally have a tint below 32% VLT if the driver holds an exemption card. A validated form must be carried at all times and can only reduce minimum limits from 20% down to 0%.

Delaware has a law that requires all cars to have at least one inch of tint. However, if you need an exemption from this rule because your health is compromised or impaired. Then it’s possible with the proper application MV495 form (Application for Medical Waiver under Title 47 Section 494). You can obtain this in person through any Delaware DMV location or by mail.

Florida offers a Window tint medical exemptions for lupus, dermatomyositis, and other autoimmune diseases or conditions.

Medical exemption certificates in Florida are non-transferable and have no expiration date. A $6 fee is charged for each certificate issued.

Do you need a permit to put tint on your windows in Georgia? The state-licensed physician or optometrist must attest that you require special shielding from the sun due to medical condition, and there is a $10 application fee.

We require at least a 23% VLT for all medical exemptions.

There are many cases in which a medical exemption will not be granted due to the risk of injury posed by protective eyewear devices.

The state of Hawaii does not currently have any regulations that allow for medical exemptions when it comes to tinted windows.

A medical waiver is allowed under the law but a written notification from an approved physician must be carried in your vehicle. The 70/20% rule applies to windshields and other windows with tinted glass, while only up to 35% luminous reflectance may be applied across all surfaces (tint included).

If you’re exempt from the law, your car can have 70% windshield tint and 20% side window tints.

Medical exemptions are permitted in Illinois. Drivers must have a certified statement or letter from an authorized physician that they have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions: systemic lupus erythematosus, disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis (DSAP), albinism; but other medical conditions may also be qualified for this waiver according to laws on file at installer’s local DMV office.

Medical exemptions are not given when sunglasses and other protective eye devices provide sufficient protection.

The certificate must be renewed every 4 years.

Indiana has a few different laws for drivers who have medical conditions that require them to carry certifications. These drivers must be attested to by physicians or optometrists licensed in Indiana, and their certification renewal is necessary each year too.

Iowa has a law that was passed in 2012 which prevents dark tint on car windows. Darker than 35% visibility level, it must be for medical reasons and signed off with an official form from your doctor by July 4th of this year or before then if they had lost their DOT#432020 certificate as a proof-of-medical necessity (DLP). If anyone finds themselves without either document there is still hope through The Office Vehicle & Motor Carrier Services who can issue replacements upon request!

Kansas does not exempt any special tint due to medical reasons.

Currently, there are no laws or regulations that allow special tints due to medical reasons.

Louisiana residents who are permit holders can operate their vehicles with darker tint for registered owners, spouses, or family members. You may also apply for a medical exemption which includes conditions such as albinism and lupus to eligible individuals through Louisiana’s Department of Health Services offices in Baton Rouge your local branch office.

Department of Public Safety and Corrections issues a special decal that must be prominently displayed on vehicles at all times indicating tinted windows for medical reasons.

If you receive an exemption and install a darker tint on your vehicle, it’s important to remove it if the car is being sold or transferred.

Louisiana is a pro-vaccination state. Any exemptions granted are subject to review every three years, and those convicted of violent crimes or drug offenses will not be able to get the medical exemption.

Chief of State Police may upon proper application provide vehicle owners with a certificate of exemption.
Maine is one state that allows for medical exemptions, and it only takes the Chief’s signature to get this done!

Maryland is one of the few states that permit medical waivers for window tint, and written certification from a physician licensed in Maryland must be carried with you when driving.

A medical exemption from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is now available. This form must be sign and legalize by a licensed physician. Who will then issue you an official certificate to exempt your vehicle from complying with certain restrictions. That are specific only for those suffering from certain conditions or having special needs when operating vehicles in this state.

When a person has a permanently photophobic or photosensitive condition, they cannot correct it with sunglasses and require an exemption.

The State of Michigan allows medical exemptions for light-sensitive and photosensitive people. To qualify, the individual must have a letter from their licensed physician in the vehicle that verifies this need to drive or operate machinery safely on public roads.

The window treatments that are installed due to medical conditions should not interfere or obstruct the driver’s vision of the highway.

Michigan does not specify the minimum window tint darkness allowed under medical exemptions, but it must have less than 35% light reflection.

Window tint medical exemptions are not uncommon. A licensed physician’s prescription or statement must be in the vehicle at all times, specifying VLT and any other requirements necessary to satisfy patient needs as a result of their health condition.

The statement must have an expiration date, which should be no more than two years after the date it was issued.

Licensed physicians can issue signed affidavits stating the person has a physical condition or disease requiring greater sun protection.

If you are exempt from the medical requirements to drive a vehicle, then it is imperative that your certificate of exemption on behalf of the Commissioner and signed by them be displayed in front of view while driving.

Missouri Highway Patrol issues special permits for window tint. If you are going to apply a dark or opaque color, then a written prescription from your physician must be provided specifying the percentage needed due to medical condition with an example of what type it will look like when applied on windows (i.e., blue-tinted glass).

The Window tint medical exemptions permit must be carried in the vehicle at all times. When the officer issues you a certificate, they will also place a sticker for the lower-left corner of your windshield and give out one more decal which goes on the rear Windows/bumper area.

A signed affidavit from a licensed physician or another medical professional who can attest to the reasons for your exemption is required.

Highway Patrol or local law enforcement agencies may grant a waiver based on the affidavit. The waiver will contain clear identification of the vehicle, date issued, name, and owner for that particular registration number- all in accordance with Florida Statutes 43 sections 825 through 827a.; this means you have a good reason why your license plate has been suspended!

You’ll need to contact your local Highway Patrol office for more information. They will provide the necessary paperwork, forms, and instructions on how best to proceed with this process.

There are no medical exemptions specified in Nebraska’s statute.

Nevada offers a medical exemption, with the maximum allowed percent being 20%.

New Hampshire is a state that has special laws for medical waiver drivers. The front side windows and windshield of their car can have up to 35% more viewing time than other areas on the vehicle because it’s been allowed through legislation as long they are driven by someone with intolerance or reaction towards the light, such allergic reactions triggered from sun rays; melanoma cancer patients – any condition which is aggravated due to exposure in this regard will qualify under these statute guidelines including lupus porphyria brown poet syndrome etcetera.

Medical waivers once granted are valid for 2 years and maybe issued to two vehicles. No fees are required!

New Jersey permits medical exemptions. The state’s conditional window limit is between 70 and 35% for windshields. While the front side windows are limit at 50%. Conditions include ophthalmic or dermatological photosensitivity. Which may be link with chronic actinic dermatitis among other things such as skin cancers associated with the diagnosis of photo-sensitive eczema.

You will have to display your medical exemption certificate in the vehicle at all times. You can label it with what type of sun-screening material or product manufacturer. And even where it was install that you got this done for if necessary too. So people know how they were grant permission from their doctor before getting tint windows on these cars!

Medical Exemptions are valid for and must be renewed every 4 years.

The permit window tinting in New Mexico is a great way to help your car’s exterior look its best. The law does not specify what type of VLT (very low-tint) with medical exemptions, but an optometrist or physician licensed by the state can issue affidavits that must be carried at all times while driving around town!

The New York State Department of Health announced updated regulations for medical conditions including albinism, chronic actinic dermatitis/actinic reticulated, lupus erythematosus (including porphyria), xeroderma pigmentosa (a genetic condition that impacts skin function). People with any other disorder causing severe photosensitivity must be shielded from direct sun exposure due to their particular needs – this includes individuals who are required by doctors’ orders or choice alike!

North Carolina is one of the states in which you can get your windshield tinted to an extent that would make even Smokey Jean assume it was unsafe. With 70% VLT, there are no limitations under certain conditions and with a permit from Divison Motor Vehicles Medical Review Program for 2-5 years (depending on how old they were), anyone who’s interested has access! Even better news? If you’re caught without displaying this sticker after getting cited $200+, all fines go away eventually–as long as we have breath left inside us at least…

North Dakota has a new law that will not allow Window tint medical exemptions.

Ohio window tinting laws do not mention any medical exceptions for the practice.

The law in Oklahoma allows for medical exemptions. These are issue by The Commissioner of Public Safety, and can be use to reduce your VLT on both rear windows. As well side windows if you have a vehicle with them exempt from being able to see out easily due to these disabilities or ailments that prevent it (examples could include: glaucoma).

To receive a waiver, you must provide written attestation from your physician that they are license in accordance with Section 495 of Title 59 of Oklahoma Statutes.

Window tint medical exemptions waivers are a great way to get your vehicle solar protect in Oregon. Lower light transmission tints may be install on the side and rear windows when register under the name of people. The department of transportation can issue a certificate of exemption for any vehicle where the owner or registrant, who regularly drives in that car suffers from a physical condition determined by consultation with the medical advisory board.

The Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles issues stickers that must be apply to the driver’s side window. Exemptions is issues for vehicle owners or legal guardians who are requires by law to shield their passengers from UV rays and have sign an affidavit stating this fact with a physician/optometrist present at the time of the application process.

A signed affidavit by an optometrist or physician stating. That the person has a physical condition which requires them to equip their vehicle with otherwise illegal Window tint medical exemptions, must be updated every two years.

There are no exemptions in South Dakota statutes.

If you have a medical condition. That is adversely affect by ultraviolet light. Please submit an application to the commissioner certifying your need to reduce window tinting.

The commissioner shall submit the certified statement to a medical review board for evaluation. If it is determine that an exemption is warrant. Then they will recommend what level of tinting should be grants. And how it applies in this instance specifically with regards to motor vehicles – cars or trucks?

The Texas Department of Public Safety announce that motorists no longer need to request a medical exemption. From the department since 2019. Instead, it says that they can just possess sign statements or prescriptions from license physicians. Those who agree their health is in danger if not protect by an eye screening test at least once every two years.

In order to ensure that drivers are in compliance with all of the regulations. A copy of this doctor’s statement must be includ during the annual vehicle inspection. The statements should also be present at any time and brought out if request by law enforcement officers as well!

Medical waivers can greatly affect the amount of light that gets through your windows. And sometimes even with a UV filter on only 25% will make it past. Unfortunately, this means tinted windshields are out unless. You’re ok not seeing as much glare from other drivers or road signs since they block all those annoying rays!

The state of Utah does not provide any information about medical waivers and tint exemptions.

Vermont allows medical exemptions. In order to obtain an exemption permit, you must fill out an application and have it signed by either a licensed physician or optometrist who will attest that they know about your condition(s) which substantially limits one’s physical abilities for occupational purposes.

Medical Exemption only allows the tinting of side windows next to the driver.

To apply for medical authorization in Virginia. The applicant must submit an application to DMV that includes their vehicle information and certification from one of several list professionals. The complete form can be at Sun-Shading Medical Authorizations (MD20).

A new registration card will be sent to the vehicle owner with Special Conditions space reading “sun shading.”

With a medical exemption, you are permit to tint the front windshield up to 70% VLT and the top 5 inches (AS-1 line) of the glass can have 35%.

All windows and the top 6 inches of your windshield may have greater light reduction under the medical exemption. A licensed physician must issue an official statement. That the operator or passenger should not be expose to sunlight because they are physically unhealthy. This includes any kind of skin cancer too!

The person with the condition and their caregiver must sign a waiver before they can drive. This waver will be valid as long as you have your predisposition or until I sell the car, whichever comes first!

To apply for a waiver, the person with a medical condition must submit their Vehicle Tint Waiver Request Form to DC DMV. It requires your physician statement and authorizes you to equip window tinting films. That exceeds the regulatory limit as indicate on the form. Nowhere near what’s legal in some states!

West Virginia has a law that permits medical exemptions for motor vehicles in the name of an individual or their legal guardian. Who can holds an affidavit sign by a physician stating. They need darker window tint because it is necessary to help with whatever condition they have.

The affidavit must be in the possession of anyone so afflict. Or their legal guardian at all times while being transported via motor vehicle.

Wisconsin laws allow for medical exceptions. A written statement from the treating physician which identifies the patient, condition, and vehicle it applies to must be carries in your car at all times. If there’s a chance you could need treatment on the go or have an operation like surgery while driving home after work with ease thanks to this law!

An exemption is only valid for the front side windows and must not be under 35% VLT.

Wyoming State law requires that a medical certificate be issue before issuing or renewing your Wyoming driver’s license. The Department of Transportation (DOT) is the agency in charge, and they’ll ask for one from your doctor if you need it to protect yourself from sunlight.
A signed statement verifying this condition must also come with any applications submitted – don’t forget!

Window tinting may not be the most popular option for your car. But it’s important to know that there are different laws in every state, and some permit medical exceptions.

In all states where medical exceptions are permitt, you must provide proof of a necessity for darker tint. It is illegal to submit false statements, so make sure your conditioner has new validity before requesting any doctor’s attestations or affidavits.
