It’s important to understand the legalities of car window tinting in Kentucky (KY). You’ll find that there are two different types. Heat-reflective and dark tints with no more than 35% light transmittance allow. If you want your vehicle visible at night.  Or have water slapped against it by raindrops shining through like prisms on an Etch A Sketch drawing, respectively!

In 1994, the first comprehensive window tint law for all 50 states was passed in Kentucky.
The passage marked an important milestone as it’s one of only 25 that includes both cars and motorcycles to its restrictions on colored glass panels.

WHAT DOES VLT MEAN ACCORDING TO KENTUCKY STATE LAW

The percentage of light that a window tint film allows to pass through your car windows is called the VLT (Visible Light Transmission). Each state has different legal allowed limits. The amount for Kentucky’s law on this subject varies depending on whether you’re driving or not. Passenger vehicles have much lower restrictions than Multi-Purpose Vehicles do!

A higher VLT will allow more light to enter through the window tint film. For example, a 75% tinter is able to admit 75% of available illumination whereas an opaque 5%. This makes it easier for drivers on your street who may not be aware that they are exposing. Because their windows do not let in enough natural sunlight. Makes driving at night safer by allowing greater visibility when you’re outside your vehicle.
